Game Recap: Civitello, Otto Lead Way In Sweep of Union County

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery's softball team earned its first two victories of the season, downing the Owls of Union County College 23-2 and 21-5 in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

First-year player Katie Civitello drove in 12 runs over the two games, launching a home run in the first game and adding three doubles in the second game. Meanwhile, second-year pitcher Corinne Otto picked up her first two wins of the season.

Civitello drove in five runs to lead the Mustangs' 17-hit offensive in the first game, which was scoreless until Montgomery erupted for nine runs in the third inning. Civitello finished 2 for 5. Leadoff batter Julie Primavera added four RBI while going 3 for 5. Emily Smith also was 3 for 5, with three RBI. Five players, including Primavera and Smith, crossed the plate three times.

In game two, Civitello was 4 for 5 with seven runs-batted-in. Rachel DiBenedetto knocked in three runs, while Otto, smith and Heather Milligan added two RBI apiece. Otto and Smith each crossed the plate five times.

Otto allowed two earned runs on four hits in the opener and two earned runs on five hits in the second game. She recorded nine strikeouts over both games.

Montgomery, 2-2 overall and 2-2 in Region XIX, returns to action on Thursday, April 9 in Sewell, NJ for a NJCAA doubleheader at Rowan College at Gloucester County. First pitch set for 3:30 pm.
