Game Recap: Softball Falls to Cumberland in 2015 Season Opener

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery's softball team opened the 2015 campaign on Tuesday, falling in a Region XIX doubleheader to Cumberland County College 10-1 and 18-0.

The sweep spoiled the debut of first-year Head Women's Softball Coach Francine Roseman.

In game one, Katie Civitello was roughed up for 6 runs (only 1 earned) while allowing five hits and walking four over three innings. Allegra Schnitzel relieved Civitello, but did not fare much better as the Dukes added four more runs in the top of the fourth to lead 10-0. Civitello drove in the lone run for the Mustangs, which managed just four hits in the contest.

In game two, the Mustangs managed just three hits in an 18-0 shutout loss. Corinne Otto allowed 14 earned runs on 16 hits over four innings as Montgomery fell to 0-2.

"Obviously a tough start to the year, but we'll learn from this," Roseman said. "Cumberland is a very talented team, and they proved it today."

Montgomery, 0-2 overall and 0-2 in Region XIX, hosts Union County College in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 pm.
