The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs softball team lost 1-16 to the Ocean County College Vikings in the second game of a double header Saturday.
The Vikings methodically took advantage of the opportunities given to them by the Mustangs. Several players contributed on the scoresheet, as Charli Topinka, Morgan Princiotti, and starter Meagan Lorenz each had two hits. For the second straight game, Christina Polihrom led the team with four runs scored. Lorenz (2-4) also pitched a near perfect game, allowing no runs on only two hits.
The Mustangs, on the other hand, used a pitching carousel of five players to get through the game. Pitcher Alicia Eppler suffered the loss and falls to (0-2) on the year. Sammi Kidd and Nicole Panetta provided the only hits for the Mustangs, and Maddie Paone produced the lone run that denied a Viking shutout.
Next up for the Mustangs (2-6) on this homestand is Atlantic Cape Community College (1-8). This is a favorable opponent scheduled at the right time, as the Mustangs boast a lifetime 4-0 record in the series, which includes a pair of 7-0 shutouts in their last meeting.
