Men's soccer had broken their two-game losing streak on Thursday in a rematch against Harrisburg Area Community College. Now, they were looking to continue that momentum in another rematch, this time at home against Lehigh Carbon Community College.
The Mustangs' offense looked sloppy early on. Thankfully, their defense, led by sophomores Frank Dadparvar (American School of Valencia), Eric Podrost (Abington) and Oscar Garcia (Norristown), kept them in the game. Despite 10 first half shots, the Mustangs were unable to capitalize on any of their opportunities and the game stayed tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
Montgomery kept pushing and finally found an answer. Shortly after a corner kick, a Cougar player committed a handball in the box, which led to a penalty kick. Ayoub Mouhou (SO, Daniel Boone) put the kick in the back of the net and gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Quickly after that, the Mustangs' physical play led to another foul in the box and another penalty kick goal for Mouhou, his 14th goal of the season. The Mustangs would hold on for the 2-0 victory.
"Good teams win ugly games," said head coach Tom Haney. "It certainly wasn't pretty, but I was proud of our guys for finding a way to win. I was also very happy with our defense. You've got a great shot at winning a game if you record a clean sweep."
On Tuesday, the Mustangs will take on Bucks County Community College at home, in a match that could decide the fate of the EPAC. The match starts at 3:30pm.
