Men's Soccer off to an Explosive Start

Men's Soccer off to an Explosive Start

Expectations were high for the Montgomery County Men's Soccer team this season, especially after their conference championship last season. Thanks to a mix of great offense and stout defense against Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday, it seems that they picked up where they left off.

The Mustangs got off to a fast start, thanks to a beautiful Ayoub Mouhou (SO, Daniel Boone) cross to Elias Gehman (FR, Christopher Dock) in the third minute. Two own goals, one attributed to Gehman and another attributed to Connor Kristoff (FR, Upper Moreland), would keep the momentum moving for Montgomery. Ayoub Mouhou would add a goal of his own, to give the Mustangs a big 4-0 lead only 16 minutes into the game.

Harrisburg would add one goal back, when Erik Zart converted a penalty kick. That was some of goalkeeper John Gonzalez's (FR, Wissahickon) only action. Gonzalez only recorded 2 saves during the game, thanks to the tenacious Mustang defense, lead by sophmores Frank Dadpavar (SO, American School of Valencia) and Oscar Garcia (SO, Norristown). Two more goals, one by Mouhou and one by Aimane Oueldaissa (FR, Hatboro-Horsham), would give Montgomery a 6-1 lead at the half. Mouhou would complete his hat trick four minutes into the second half.

The Hawks would not be deterred however. A perfectly placed free kick by Kirolos Mikhail in the 62nd minute gave them another score and shifted a small amount of momentum to the Hawks. However, Mouhou would quickly quench that momentum by adding his fourth goal of the game, off of an Erik Hernandez (FR, Norristown) pass. Renato Saiter-Frois (SO, Rockland) would finish the scoring in the 72nd minute and lead the Mustangs into a 9-2 victory.

The Mustangs were able to play all 20 men on their roster, which is a perfect scenario for your first game of the season. Each player saw some playing time and was able to get valuable experience.

"This was a good first outing," said head coach Tom Haney. "I was happy with everyone's effort. We played well, but we still need to work on our team chemistry a bit for the next game."

Men's soccer will continue their season Thursday when they take on Valley Forge Military college at Valley Forge.
