Game Recap: Men's Soccer Tops Phantoms 2-1

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs soccer team completed its first half of the season over the .500 mark with a 2-1 win over the Delaware County Community College Phantoms.

The victory sets them at an overall and league record of 3-2-1.

The Mustangs showcased an aggressive offensive effort in the first half of the game, racking up 14 shots but hitting the goal post three times to come up empty on the board. The Phantoms were able to earn a 1-0 lead when they found the back of the net off a controversial on-sides shot just two minutes before half time.

In the second half, Mustangs Head Coach Obed Arango started an even more offensive formation to try to recover from the setback. The changes were effective, as the faster, fresher Mustangs pressured the Phantoms defense. At the 58th minute, Elijah Johnson send a pass from the right side to Joseph Lasher, who knocked in the game-tying goal.

Just over ten minutes later Lasher made magic again as he found the back of the net off a pass from Sean Treacy. The go-ahead goal turned out to be the game winner for the Mustangs, as the team was able to shut out the Phantoms for the last 20 minutes of play.

"The Mustangs won a deserved victory," said Coach Arango. "Teh team looked strong and calm. They are improving in every game."

Next the Mustangs will play on Monday Sept. 30 at 3:30 p.m. as they travel to face off against the Cougars of Lehigh Carbon Community College.
