The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's soccer team defeated the Cougars of Lehigh Carbon Community College 5-1 on Monday.
After Saturday's loss to Harrisburg Area Community College the Mustangs stepped onto the field with something to prove. The team's offensive chances started early and continued throughout the game. Just 17:48 into the game, freshman Jon Prasky found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Anthony Defrancesco. Ten minutes later, sophomore Musa Ahamed served a ball to Defrancesco who sunk a goal of his own to put the Mustangs up 2-0 going into half time.
In the second half the Mustangs added three more goals. About 10 minutes into play, sophomore Joe Mitsch knocked in a pass from sophomore Corey Signore to tally his second goal of the season. Then in the 65th minute of the game, Jason Pinnock sent a pass to Ahamed who landed a goal from over 20 yards out.
Down 0-4, the Cougars managed a rally to break the shutout but never got closer than the three goal deficit. With less than 15 minutes to go in the game, Ahamed answered back with his second goal of the match, off a pass in the box from freshman Sean Robinson. The goal secured the 5-1 victory for the Mustangs.
Mustangs Head Coach Matt Giordano felt good about his team's performance. "We needed this one today. It was a real confidence builder for the team. We have been so unlucky lately with scoring opportunities. Today we took care of business."
