The Mustangs men's soccer team lost 1-2 in double overtime to the Harrisburg Area Community College Hawks.
The Mustangs came out strong when freshman Anthony Defrancesco scored about three minutes into play. The team continued to dominate with a 1-0 lead for most of the first half, until the Hawks were able to convert on their lone shot to tie it up just before the break.
In the second half the Mustangs landed 20 shots on goal but could not find the back of the net, sending the teams into overtime.
Overtime showcased more of the same and the Mustangs dominated play and continued to pound the goal. With a number of shots hitting the post, the team was unable to convert for the win. Six minutes into the second overtime period, the Hawks sealed the Mustangs' fate, scoring off a free kick just outside the box.
Head Coach Matt Giordano contributes the loss to his team's trouble finishing. "As a team we have not been consistent in our finishing and now, in this game, that came to haunt us."
The Mustangs are now looking for wins to round out the season and earn a solid spot in the EPAC playoffs. "This goes to show how quickly the tide can change with just one loss. We went from a position of fighting for a top seed in playoffs to just fighting for a playoff spot period."
The team's focus will now be on winning the remainder of their games to round out the regular season with a strong finish.
