Game Recap: 'Sluggish' Mustangs Top Hawks For 3rd Straight Win

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Head Men's Basketball coach Denny Surovec didn't feel he got a complete effort from his team Saturday afternoon, yet the Mustangs won their third straight with an 86-77 victory over the Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College.

"We were really sluggish today, but found a way to win," said Surovec, whose team led 39-32 at halftime. "We need to improve upon our consistency, and learn how to play together for a full 40 minutes."

Neither team shot particularly well from the field. The Hawks converted 33 of 86 shots, while Montgomery hit on only 30 of its 80 opportunities.

The difference in the game was at the foul line, where Montgomery connected on 22 of its 43 free throws. Harrisburg, meanwhile, went to the foul line just 16 times and made only 7 free throws. Harrisburg also attempted 28 shots from three-point range, but only converted 4 of those. The Mustangs were good around the boards, collecting 53 rebounds compared to 44 by the Hawks.

For the Mustangs, freshman Jared Stanley paced the offensive attack with 20 points and 7 rebounds, while fellow freshman Kanen Horton added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Ryan Casper chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Chris Uhrich led the team with 12 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Next up for the Mustangs is a Tuesday evening game on the road at Northampton Community College, with tip-off set for 7 PM.
