Men's Basketball Makes NJCAA Region 19 Playoffs

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team finished up the 2013-14 regular season Tuesday, with a 75-60 win over the Harrisburg Area Community College Hawks.

The Mustangs earned 7th seeding in the Regional Tournament, with an overall record of 13-10 and a Region 19 record of 9-5. The squad will enter Round 1 of the NJCAA Region 19 playoffs this Saturday with a match up against the Bulldogs of Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, a team that is seeded 10th, being 9-14 overall and 8-6 in the Region.

In previous meetings during the season, the two teams were even. The Mustangs defeated the Bulldogs 85-77 on Thursday, Dec. 11th, but lost 89-111 earlier this week on Monday, Feb. 17th.

Players to watch are sophomores Dexter Shy and Tre Budd. The duo has racked up a combined 352 rebounds and 650 points for the Mustangs. First year players Nick Demeno, Steve Kulp and Chris Uhrich are also key contributers on the Mustangs squad.

The five starters are joined by a strong bench, including Ryan Casper, Cameron Green and Shane Isett. The group has built a solid season with all-around team wins and should be exciting to watch in playoff action.

Saturday's match up will take place at the Physical Education Center on Montgomery County Community College's Central Campus in Blue Bell, Pa. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. All fans are asked to wear maroon to show school spirit in a playoff "Maroon Out."
