Game Recap: Mustangs Edge Out Centurions

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs defeated the Bucks County Community College Centurions 94-92 in Tuesday's regular season men's basketball game.

To start the game off, the Mustangs took a 10-0 lead with the help of eight points from freshman Nick Demeno. The team was able to maintain a 10 point spread for most of the first half, though the Centurions were able to cut that lead down to five by the end of the period.

Trailing 38-43 going into the second half, the Centurions turned on the heat, overtaking the Mustangs within the first 90 seconds of play. The two teams traded the lead a handful of times over the course of ten minutes of action. The Mustangs finally secured advantage with a game-tying free throw from Ron Melton, followed by a three-pointer from Demeno with just under eight minutes to go.

For the remainder of play the Mustangs maintained a two to seven point advantage over the Centurions, clinching the win with a strong defensive showing in the final minute of the game.

Leading the Mustangs offensively was Demeno, who racked up 26 points and shot 2-for-2 at the line. Following him was Ron Melton with 17 points and 4 steals. The team's rebounding effort was led by Steve Kulp and Jalil Shafi, who tallied seven each. Shafi also matched teammate Tre Budd with seven assists apiece.

Next the Mustangs will host the Ocean County College Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5th.
