The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team defeated the Harrisburg Area Community College Hawks 81-76 Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks opened up the game with a 7-2 run but the Mustangs quickly turned it around taking a 19-15 lead by the 12:00 mark. The Mustangs held a tight lead for the remainder of the first half sending the Hawks into the locker room at a two-point deficit.
Starting the second half up 40-38 the Mustangs aimed to maintain the lead. However, the Hawks struck first and snagged the lead within a minute of play. The Mustangs refused to lay down, stealing the lead back just minutes later and building a 10 point advantage over the course of the half.
With five minutes left the Mustangs found themselves up 72-62. But the Hawks played through to shrink the double digit lead to just five. In the remaining seconds of the game the Hawks tried to steal the game but could not come up with it, ultimately losing the match 81-76.
Top scorers for the Mustangs were Darnell Clowney with 20 points, Darryl Foye with 16 and Tre Budd with 13. Jah'lil Williams racked up 10 assists, while Clowney notched eight rebounds. Both athletes totaled six steals in the victory.
