The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs traveled north Tuesday night to take on the Spartans of Northampton Community College.
The game swung in favor of the Spartans early on as the hosting team jumped to a 9-0 lead over the Mustangs in the opening drive. The Mustangs pushed to make up the difference throughout the first half but found themselves down by five after 20 minutes of play.
Going into the second half trailing 39-44, the Mustangs were able to keep tempo with the Spartans, but could not overcome the deficit. The game concluded with a seven point lead for the Spartans, giving the Mustangs their third loss of the season.
Sophomore Jah'lil Williams lead the Mustangs throughout the game with 21 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Following him in points were freshman Tyreek Magruder with 18 and sophomores Darnell Clowney and Omar Askia with 15 and nine respectively.
"Our guys fought all night," said Mustangs Head Coach Denny Surovec. "But it's hard playing catch up all game long."
The Mustangs will have a second chance against the Spartans on January 29, 2013 at home at 5:00 p.m.
