The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team defeated the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars 80-75 Tuesday evening.
The Cougars jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the start of the game but could not keep up the pace. The Mustangs recovered and were able to eat away at the score to take control by half time with a 41-36 lead.
In the second half the Cougars started strong once again, building a 12 point lead within the first 8:00 of the period. However, once again the Mustangs took the game back to ultimately win 80-75.
Sophomore Jah'lil Williams led the evening with 20 points, seven assists, six rebounds and six steals. Fellow sophomores Omar Askia and Dashan Dyson followed in point totals with 11 apiece, while sophomore Darnell Clowney and freshman Darryl Foye notched eight points each. Foye tied Williams with six rebounds and Clowney tallied five.
Mustangs Head Coach Denny Surovec commented on the performance of the Cougars team. "Coach Iorio did a great job preparing his guys. They forced us into sloppy play all night," said Surovec. "I'm really proud of our guys for staying on task and fighting the way they did. We showed a lot of heart tonight battling back from a big second half deficit."
