On Saturday, baseball traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC for their annual trip to the Ripken Experience. Many junior colleges use the Ripken Experience for their spring break trip, so there are always a lot of good competitors ready to play.
After a quick practice Sunday morning, the team was itching and ready to go for their match Sunday night. Finger Lakes Community College was the first team that the Mustangs had on the schedule. The game started at 6:15, which means that the Mustangs were going to play under the lights for the first time this season.
The beginning of the game looked exactly like you would suspect from two teams who had traveled 10+ hours to be there. Neither team could knock up and runs for the first four innings. Then, all of the sudden, the Mustangs caught fire.
A short hit from Mike Kelly (FR, Pope John Paul) brought Frankie Ramirez (FR, Winter Springs) in to start the scoring. Then, Colt Narciso (FR, Pope John Paul) and Matt Ahmad (SO, Pope John Paul) kept the inning going with two RBIs of their own.
Those three runs would be the only scored in any inning for either team and the Mustangs would go on to win, 3-0. Luke Deleo (SO, Pope John Paul) pitched a complete 7-inning game with a 0.00 ERA and only 4 hits allowed in the win.
Tomorrow, the Mustangs will face off agaings SUNY Jefferson in an early, 10am match.
