Baseball Concludes Season with Playoff Loss to Gloucester
Sewell, N.J. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs baseball team was knocked out of the NJCAA Division III Region 19 playoffs by the Gloucester County College Roadrunners.
The Mustangs headed to the playoffs for their first NJCAA post-season appearance in team history. Faced with the no. 1 seeded team in the country, the Mustangs put up a solid fight against the Roadrunners, but were ultimately eliminated in the first round of the tournament.

In game one of the playoff double-header, the Mustangs held the Roadrunners to a 1-1 score until the bottom of the 8th inning. After a near flawless game the Mustangs posted two errors that resulted in three runs for the Roadrunners. Behind 1-4 going into the top of the 9th inning, the Mustangs threw all they had at the competition. However, the effort was not converted into runs and the Roadrunners prevailed 4-1.

Game two was riddled with injuries and imbalance for the Mustangs. Three athletes suffered injuries in the first two innings, including a concussion, a pulled arm muscle and an injured hip. In addition, the team could not find a winning rhythm and ultimately the game was called at the top of the 5th inning, sending the Roadrunners on to semifinals off a 16-1 victory.
Two student-athletes from the Mustangs baseball squad were honored with Regional recognition. Freshman short stop Kyle Gaffney was named to the 3rd Team All-Region and second year sophomore center fielder Tyler Gregg was named to the 2nd Team All Region.

Additionally, freshman catchers John Iorio and Eric Lewandowski earned the team's Sportsmanship Award and Randolph Award, respectively, while Tyler Gregg and Kyle Gaffney shared the Most Valuable Player Award.

The Gloucester County College Roadrunners continue on their course to the NJCAA World Series as Region 19 and District G Champions. The World Series takes place in Tyler, Tx. May 19-25th.
